Re: The Desolation of Smaug... Pictures, trailers etc...

Grrrrr. Back again because I was so angry I missed properly stating how bad Mirkwood was (Beorn was bloody piss poor too...) and why I stopped watching before I even got to this Tuariel shite. Who having read the book thought Mirkwood looked anything like what was so crappily realised and frankly Ch...

Re: The Desolation of Smaug... Pictures, trailers etc...

To paraphrase Gandalf in the Chamber of Marzabul... I feared it was so and like Gimli I'm casting my hood over...

Audiobook: The Silmarillion read by Martin Shaw

I cannot recommend this highly enough. Did you ever think on reading the Silmarillion that it seemed a little dry? Did it seem so different in narrative style from The Lord of the Rings that you just couldn't get into it (what with all the thee and thou and Dost thou go cross gartered yonder varlet ...

Re: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - 1st Trailer

Well I finally saw it. It took admittedly quite a long time! I suppose I had a expectation it wouldn't be my cup of tea. It wasn't :-(. The much maligned opening 45 minutes was brilliant but the rest apart from the odd scene was pretty poor. The shire, the trolls, the snippets of smaug and Gollum im...

RIP Ray

Ray Bradbury dies. :( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18345350 This could have pretty much gone in any book forum he was that prolific. I'll stick with General Fiction as a good catch all. Something Wicked This Way Comes is one of my favourite books. I always wanted to ride on Cooger &a...

The Hobbit and the perils of 48 frames per second...

From the Beeb website:

Looks like its great for outdoors scenery and sweeping panoramas - not so good for close-ups and studio work.
