Homemade Maple Bars Using Refrigerated Biscuit Dough

Postby TomCotton » Thu Mar 19, 2015 3:05 pm

I tried this out the other day and they turned out real good.
Homemade Maple Bars

I used Pillsbury Grands buttermilk biscuit dough, 8 count. The biscuits are what we call biscuits in the USA, I do not know what those would be called elsewhere. Maybe scones but without the sugar and fruit.:?

Anywho, the buttermilk taste is very light but gives just enough contrast to the sweet maple icing.

I get annoyed when going to a local doughnut shop and there are no maple bars available. Those things are very tasty and very much in demand so they do not stay on the shelves for very long. Figured why not try something at home.

Other than my mind, I miss doughnuts the most - though I can buy just one or two (I don't resist; if I want them, I get them, and right now, I'm into hot cross buns  .)

The pictures are just scrumptious, though *sigh* ...

I still want one. As of yesterday, one has not been found. I cannot make these because I will eat the whole thing and have to be rescued with insulin.

The hunt continues...

This morning at the grocer's, I noticed that they were still out of 'maple bars', which go by 'long johns'. Here they come filled or unfilled, and iced with chocolate, vanilla, or maple (also topped with nuts, sprinkles or crumbled bacon.)

So I asked, and was told that they were fresh, cooling on the rack, and if I could wait another couple of minutes, I could have whatever I wanted. I asked for two maple-iced, and ate them in the car :D .

I was going to take them home. I was going to share. I was full of the best of intentions, I was, really...but they were just cool enough not to melt the maple frosting, and warm enough to scent the air of my toyota with their all their fresh-baked goodness, and I-I'm a bad person!

They were so good! :)
