JRRT biography.

Postby Mingbearer » Mon Mar 29, 2010 4:34 pm

I just spotted a copy of Tolkien's biography in my local library.

Well done to them for having a copy.

I've gone to the Eagle and Child quite a few times, and it's quiet: lacking in students (hooray!) and even more lacking in tourists (hooray! hooray!).

I wonder if JRRT ever did a 'Boromir' there at closing time. 'Here comes C.S. Lewis! It must be Tuesday!'

Why Tolkien wrote The Hobbit. A 1968 interview:

"He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God." - Aeschylus
