All For The Union The Civil War Diary and Letters of Elisha Hunt Roads

This is the diary and letters referenced a lot in the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War about the US Civil War 1861 - 1865.

Rhodes started the war as a private in the 2nd Rhode Island Infantry Regiment in the Union army and ended it as a Lt. Colonel in the same regiment. He fought at First Bull Run which was the first major battle of the war near Manassas, Virginia, and at Appomattox Court House, Virginia which was the last major battle and is where General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General U. S. Grant. In between the two battles Rhodes was at some other major battles including Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, The Wilderness, and Cold Harbor among many others.
