The Bogey Thread! The Movies of Humphrey Bogart.

Postby Halasian » Mon May 24, 2010 2:39 am

Have to say I've been a fan of his movies for some years. The Big Sleep, Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, and Treasure of the Sierra Madre come to mind right off. Others are also quite good. He just had a style to his acting. Anyone else like his movies?

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is my favorite movie of all times.
I even read the book. The movie stuck to the book pretty close. There were a few changes like the attack on the train by the bandits was recalled in a story being told instead of happening to Hobbs, Curtin, and Howard.

I like most of Bogart's other movies too.

Bogey rocks. My favourite is Casablanca. I even wrote a pastiche play entitled The Final Bang Goodnight that we put on a couple of years ago. Due to a dearth of male actors I bagged the lead role which I may have loosely based on Humph's performance in The Big Sleep! ;-)

I love both Casablanca and Maltese Falcon but my favourite Bogey film is African Queen, primarily for the chemistry between Bogey and Hepburn; they spark enough off each other to start a forest fire. As an adventure story, I think it's quite perfect.

His movies are the first I remember seeing. My favorite Bogey film - well, maybe this doesn't qualify because didn't have him in it (Jerry Lacey from Dark Shadows played Bogart) and that was 'Play it Again, Sam'.
