HP and the Deathly Hallows...

Postby shireling » Fri Nov 19, 2010 1:24 am

I'm going to see it tomorrow - at 10:30 AM so that I won't be in line with a bunch who've seen it and can't keep it to themselves! Btw, I haven't read a HP book since The Chamber of Secrets and I've done really well so far not finding out the ending...

Who's going also?

You know, all complaints aside...there's nothing original anymore. I think the very last original thing I ever saw on the screen was The Crying Game, and even that has its roots in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night - which he stole probably 'stole' from some ancient Greek guy.

I think out of all of the movies, this one touched me the most. It has a very emotional core to it, and Rowling's strength is how her characters are written. Also, the fact that they did a very good job with casting the kids (Haley Joel Osment was Spielberg's suggestion for Harry. He's good, I love his work, but he is no Harry Potter.) Dan, Emma and Rupert have grown up right in front of me, and in their art; they own these characters like nobody's business.

What a gamble this has been. Richard Harris died after the second film, and nobody says "boo" anymore about Michael Gabon taking over. But ten years is a long time, and anything can happen to anybody when you're filming over a decade.

I'm going to see it again as soon as my best friend is out of school for the holidays. I can't wait.

There's not a lot of interest here for this is there  ! This made me laugh because of all the brouhaha over the Potter books when it came to Christianity. Most people that I know didn't care one way or the other, and found a lot of things in the series that were supportive, like deep friendships, family ties and community.

Exactly. I always loved the books because of their humour, and because of the characters. To me, the books a're much more about friendship and growing up then about witchcraft and wizardry. A friend gave the first one to me for my birthday, and I was hooked after 2 pages.
