LOTR in verse

Postby MsBrandybuck » Tue Aug 14, 2012 12:48 am

I was cleaning out a closet this weekend and found something I wrote just after the Fellowship came out - it was the entire LOTR plot in verse. Picture the Ents trying to figure out where the Hobbits fit in the old lists and Treebeard reciting a line or two about the nature of otters [or was it badgers?] and my verse is something like that.

I thought I'd re-post it here, for your amusement or derision- whatever you're feeling. I am no writer.... not at all. And I don't pretend to be - but this thing sprang forth whole from my forehead, as it were. I was never before, nor since, so inspired to compose something like this. With humility, I present:

Lord of the Rings
Tolkien things
Bilbo sings
Balrog wings
Hobbits walking
Trees talking
Horses balking
Nazgul flying
Elves decrying
Moria. Khazad-dum
Drums roll-endless gloom
Gandalf falls, "Fly you fools!"
Lothlorien, the Golden Wood
Gimli stood firm, but good
Galadriel, the beautiful
Distributes gifts
Useful tools
Anduin, the River Great
Boromir sealed his fate
Forth Three Hunters bold and swift
Pippin, Merry cause a shift
Ents marching as to war
Knocking hard on Saruman's door
Legolas and Gimli sees
Eyes in trees! Eyes in trees!
Theoden astride his horse
"Forth Eorlings!" show of force
Erkenbrand his horn did blow
the cock did crow
Wrecking nothing of Wizardry
or gadgetry
A simple morn
Oft hope is born
Hurons clear the battlefield
Rangers come with sword and shield
A different path is theirs to take
Speed is needed; much at stake
Racing to Pelennor Field
No time to yield
To doubt or dread
Eowyn slays the Witchking dead
Merry helps [stands in good stead]
Aragorn and Eomer meet
Tho' all the host of Mordor greet
them with battle cries, now dismayed
As certain victory, disarayed
turns to defeat.
Aragorn heals
While Gandalf's zeal
Emboldens Captains of the West
Forth toward the ultimate test
To Mordor's Gate they did arrive
And there did strive
With Sauron on his shadowy throne
Sam and Frodo, all alone
With Gollum capering on the brink
Little then did Sauron think
His peril lies in Halfling's hand
While mortals make a final stand
Eagles come; all is well
Melted Ring breaks Morgul Spell
To Gondor, Faramir fealty swore
The Steward's reign is now no more
Aragorn and Arwen kiss
He is King; they live in bliss
Ringbearers and Elves at Havens meet
Where parting is so bittersweet
To Elvenhome they sail away
The time of Men begins today
Hobbits return to home and bed
Sam arrives, "Well, I'm back!" he said.
"Today is a good day to die."

The 60Second Lord of the Rings! :) That's great, Ms. B! You got it all summed - even included Erkenbrand! Brava!

Yes - a 60 second summary, indeed.
I consider it high praise, coming from you - thanks for the nod. :)
