Successes

Postby Niamh Sage » Tue Jun 08, 2010 5:42 am

Now that I've finally got one of my own to report, I thought I'd open a thread for writing successes, like getting something published, finishing NaNoWriMo, finding a damn good critique group, or otherwise winning at writing. :D So ... here's the place you can let us know what fabulous thing you've done!

To start it off, here's mine: I got my first story published! It's called 'The Bower Close' and it just came out in the most recent issue of Semaphore Magazine, which you can find here. I'm really excited about this, because it's taken me a long time to get up the nerve to send a story out.

Check out the whole magazine actually - there's a really good crop of stories in this issue - 'The Sound of Breaking Glass' is my favourite. Absolutely beautiful.

Funny, I thought I posted here ages ago.
Anyway, congratulations Niamh! That must be a really awesome feeling :D
"The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man. Nothing else that he builds ever lasts. Monuments fall, nations perish, civilizations grow old and die out, and after an era of darkness new races build others. But in the world of books are volumes that have seen this happen again and again and yet live on, still young, still as fresh as the day they were written, still telling men's hearts of the hearts of men centuries dead."

Thanks, Az! I'm still basking in the glow of success :D And also the glow of candles being burned at both ends, because of trying to moonlight and work at the same time, but that's another story ...

I just read your story, Niamh -- great stuff! Highly recommended. I might have a go at submitting my own stuff there. Thanks for the link, and I hope your successful streak continues. :D

I've just read their guidelines and written a cover letter. I'll cross my fingers when I've finished typing. :D

No, just the one for now. I've got other stuff in the pipeline, but it's on the backburner at the moment because I'm drowning in editing work instead. I hope one day to be able to get back to writing again! :P

I've got a website where people can post stuff, if you're interested. I don't offer money, but there's less risk of rejection. It's linked on my profile.

Oh, she is good! Any chance of getting something up on the new archive? I'd love to see more people using it. Only post stuff you're happy about the public seeing. I'm happy to review, but I'm wary of giving concrit to people who don't want it.

For those who do, I'm a nitpicker. This might be useful...
