Just found this on YouTube :( . I didn't realize that they did an updated version in '81 of the 1974 song (and I just remembered Bobby Hatfield's gone, as well as Dick Clark.) Some of the comments really speak for me.

Prince died from an opioid overdose.

That's what came through today. I am so sorry, it's such a terrible loss, no matter the reason. But, there's got to be a way to stop what looks like an uninterrupted flow of these drugs to people who are addicted. I've got friends who are in constant pain from cancer, and they can't get what they need because of the abuse.

Would sure be nice to start this year over...

Unbelievable. A freak accident :( . It sounds like he didn't get the car all the way in park and it rolled back, pinning him. Just awful. I was watching Terminator: Salvation Thursday night, and thinking how good he was.

Gene Wilder...

The first time I saw him was on a public TV version of Death of a Salesman. He played the son of the owner of the company that Willie Loman worked for. It's funny - well, not but - when you lose somebody like this, Bowie, Rickman, God on and on, this year sucks so bad, the world seems to have shrunk a little. I've seen almost all of his work and loved it all, even Rhinoceros, that I don't understand at all  . But Gene was in it, and that made it kosher.

Just now on the radio, they're playing Pure Imagination, and ah... .

They found Jacob Wetterling...

I remember like it was yesterday, when this 11-year-old was kidnapped, in Stearns County, Minnesota. It was October 22cd, 1989. It was all over the news that three boys - two brothers and their friend, out riding their bikes - were confronted by a masked man with a gun. He had them all lie down in a ditch, asked their ages and told two of them to run and not look back. He kept Jacob.

This story never went away. The date of the kidnapping is the same as our wedding anniversary, so there was always that reminder. I'm heartbroken for his mom and dad, his brother and the friend who escaped. Whatever anyone who knew and loved this family, might have been, was forever changed that day, and somebody needs to explain why there is a 'statute of limitations' on crimes of this nature (which, btw, includes the rapes of adults.) Daniel Heinrich, who collected kiddie porn and had a history of assaulting boys, might have been taken into custody sooner (he continually denied any involvement with Jacob's case until he led them to the child's grave on a farm in Paynesville, about 30 miles southwest of Wetterling's hometown of St. Joseph.)

RIP, sweetheart

Leonard Cohen? 2016, did I tell you that you suck big time?

As Her Majesty Elizabeth II once said, this year turns out to be an "Annus Horribilis".

Yeah...I love his stuff. I first heard The Story of Isaac when I was high school. He was 82, which makes more sense than Bowie or Alan Rickman (I still can't get over them), but it doesn't make it any easier. His son said he was writing up to the last - which is for him the way to go :) .

I don't know what I did, Paddy  . It looks like I scooped up your post and rolled it into mine.

This is one of my favorites of Mr. Cohen's...

I just got word that a friend of mine...her brother committed suicide.

There's no details, just an email asking for prayers for the family - and Mark, that was his name, Mark. She's younger than me, with a husband and teen-age son, that's my friend, Fran. God, I'm so sorry...I didn't even know of him until today. There's mercy and compassion for him - there must be. There just has to...

ororosmunroe:

The irony of George Michael dying on Christmas where he wrote one of the most iconic angsty Christmas songs known to man is not lost on us 2016. I know you think you slick but you’re really not. You’re just petty and heartless.

Now it's George Michael. Just we thought it might be over...

I can't stop thinking about a proverb we use here:

"Out of the chaos, a voice spoke to me: 'Smile and be happy, it could be worse!'.
So I smiled and was happy... and it got worse." :( :(

... and it keeps getting worse.

Carrie Fisher. I have no words.

Is it just me or has 2016 taken 10 times the usual toll?
