:D
awesome!!
All that is gold does not glitter; Not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not whither; deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken; a light from the shadows shall spring.
Renewed shall be blade that was broken; the crownless again shall be King."

They look like they have substance, emclelland - like you could actually pick them up! Very, very nice! *note to self: request thumb up smiley*

Last post on this subject - May. It's August now.

If we want a banner, I'll have a stab at it and produce something shortly. If it doesn't get used, so be it - at least the offer was there.

OK; as promised - about an hour's work.

Just a rough mock-up for now. Quick explanation:

The word 'The' is shadowy while the word 'Balrog' is aflame to signify 'both shadow and flame'... obviously!

I went for a LOTR reminiscent font as another way of acknowledging our roots, but also showing we're slightly different. The wood background is also to give an 'olde fashioned' look, but contrasts with the hi-tech of an iPad displaying a picture of... dun dun duuuuuuuunnnnnn a Balrog.

By no means a finished product - just wanted to know if I was heading in the right direction.

Let me know.

ETA - forgot to mention - the blank spaces will be filled with iconic imagery like comics, a lightsaber hilt, a fantasy novel, etc, etc.

Always better to show; not tell.....

Here's what I mean. Still not finished, but just a rough example to see if I am on the right track.

 Shuggy, you're totally right. Kinda let the banner fall to the wayside a bit- sorry guys  .
Shuggy, your banner looks great! If you guys still want me to finish mine, I can sit down and crank out the rest of it this weekend, as well.
Let me know what everyone wants to do.
Sorry again guys.

Absolutely nothing personal - in fact, I wasn't aiming at anyone.

It would be better to have a banner made by a professional as opposed to an amateur like me.

It may be possible to use both -- one at the top and the other at the bottom. I like Shuggy's banner, but I also like the one emclelland came up with.

I am of course open to revisions/additions.
I like the idea of using mine and Shuggy's together :)

Now THAT'S what we need! Very well done indeed; much better than mine. I think mine will make a nice sig.

Yay! So they both get used.

I can't wait to see that glorious work put up here on the site where it belongs. :D

I dunno about that - I simply meant that *I* might use my banner as a profile sig - or give it to someone who wants to use it.

Compared to Em's banner, it's pretty amateurish.

So, emclelland spends (presumably) a good amount of her personal time to provide this site with a potential, professional and good-looking Banner, and over 24 hours later there has been ONE response apart from mine....

In terms of RB (old and new) that's a rapturous reception.

I'd personally just like to say a sincere 'thank you' em for your hard work and time spent on this. I hope it doesn't go unnoticed.

Seconded.

I wish you guys did the chat thing instead of hoping other people would, but it's up to all of you if you want this place to work.

Sorry, I've been here, but I don't often scroll down to Workshops, and I've missed this whole thing.

I love them both. Emclelland's from the first draft, and Shuggy - yours is just beautiful, with the rustic desk-top, poster, toy and comic-books. Nice geeky chic! I could see them both without question.

One suggestion, but I'm not wed to it: EM, what do you think about putting the "RTB" in the lower right corner instead of the upper left? With all your artwork seen first, then people see "Balrog" - the idea being that we're all this - foremost - and that too.
