Mysterious are the ways of trolls. I think they're trying to get a rise out of us, but we're mostly over thirty so it's not really working.

I reckon we should make it so that people have to be validated by a mod before they can start posting. That lets mods check their names, IP or email addresses with Stop Forum Spam before they even start posting in the first place. End of problem.

That's what I found when I joined "Doctor Who". It took almost a week...

Dear me -- but they're obviously dealing with a lot of joiners. As long as someone checks the wanna-join list every day, it shouldn't take long to validate members.

Turdbag 1 is gone, Turdbag 2 is going now. Does anybody NOT agree to my idea about checking potential members against the Stop Forum Spam registry before we let them join?

Update: bayanned!!

I need permission from Cassie and O to change the forum settings. When I get that, I'll do it.

Yep, something needs to be done about those spammers, especially when they make multiple spam posts in a short span of time.

Cassie once told me that it was a good idea to make changes anyway, and if there were no objections, leave it as is. Does anyone object to my changing the settings now?

Updates: what I've done.

New Users
Okay, I've set it so that admins have to allow users on. The disadvantage is that I don't receive admin emails. I'll have to check every day to see if anyone has registered. It's no big deal, though -- unless you're desperate to start posting at once!

Trolls will be identified and cut off before they even start posting, and that can only be a good thing.

Troll Trapping
Fellow admins, please check the back office to see if anyone has registered. If so, go to http://www.stopforumspam.com and check their ip, email and username, in that order. Sometimes they use proxies to sneak through, and some IPs are catch-alls. I recommend banning as well as rejecting them, and when you ban, ban by IP, email and username to stop them from trying to register again. It usually works.

Forum Software
I've updated the forum software as well. We're on the latest version now.
