Webcomics anyone?

Postby ElviraStarkeeper » Mon Oct 25, 2010 1:21 pm

Webcomics! I'm not sure if they should go in the Books section, or maybe comics in general could have a category to themselves as it's a large part of nerd-dom?

Anyways, do you like webcomics? Which do you read? Discuss!

Here's my list with brief descriptions: (no particular order)

XKCD http://xkcd.com/
"A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language." Day to day, occasional mini storylines, very nerdy and very funny!

Questionable Content http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1
The (mis)adventures of some entertaining 20-somethings in a not-quite-realistic Massachusets. The archive is enormous and the art changes a lot, but if you can get past the beginning being full of indie-music references you will be rewarded with believeable and entertaining characters.

The Phoenix Requiem http://requiem.seraph-inn.com/viewcomic.php?page=1
Pseudo-victorian spookiness! Wonderful art!

Inverloch(completed) http://inverloch.seraph-inn.com/viewcomic.php
Fantasy comic by the same lady who does The Phoenix Requiem

Gunnerkrigg Court http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=1
Semi-steampunky, lots of interesting concepts involving magic, technology, nature, and their interactions.

Sequential Art http://www.collectedcurios.com/sequentialart.php?s=1
Light hearted fun-times with the odd Crazy Adventures thrown in. Art improves steadily. And they don't let the presence of catgirls make it all stupid :P

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal http://www.smbc-comics.com/
math, physics, philosophy and dick-jokes. Do not click if easily offended.

Scary Go Round (completed) and Bad Machienery (continuing) http://www.scarygoround.com/
Mad mad silly adventures.

Hark a Vagrant http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=1
Mostly literature and history jokes, but some other things too. HIGHLY recommended.

Goblins http://www.goblinscomic.com/06262005/
Starts out as D&D and other adventuring games jokes, turns into a real adventure comic. Art improves drasticly.

Freak Angels http://www.freakangels.com/?p=23
Post apocalyptic London. People with strange powers. Awesome art.
Warnings: Lots of violence, some nudity, LOTS of swearing. Definitely adult themes all over the place. But good though!

Dresden Codak http://dresdencodak.com/archives/
All sorts of wonderful bits and bobs!

Girl Genius http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20021104
"Adventure, Romance, MAD SCIENCE" steampunky fun :P

I read a few more, but the above are my special favourites :)

xkcd = <3

One of my favourites is Sinfest. http://www.sinfest.net It follows a handful of characters including Slick, a geeky young fellow who just wants to get with Monique, an artsy feminist; a pig who is high most of the time, a studious bookworm named Crimnee and the devil girl he falls for; appearances are also made by a cute puppy and kitten named Pooch and Percy, God, the Devil, Jesus, and Buddha.

I just spent two hours reading "Freak angels" instead of working on the project that's due in class tomorrow!

Either I am sorry or you are welcome, depending on what you thought of it :P
I read it all in one go aswell, and then get ravenous for an update immediately after each update. :(
I love how he did the weird brain sequences with Connor!

Arkady cracks me up every time she says something blatantly obvious.... like "CHIKENSSSSSSS!"

I love xkcd... it's usually pretty clever.

Also, does Simon's Cat videos count as a webcomic?

Joy: I'm pretty sure Arkady has permanently slightly changed the way i say Chickens. Not like, blantently, i just amphasiese the I a bit more i think.

MsB, yes, i don't see why not, as they are flipping AMAZING. My cats growing up tended to be a bit better behaved, but the cat i co-habitate with now is.. well, he has gained the nickname Captain Obnoxious.

Simon's Cat is hilarious. It almost makes me want a cat, and I don't even like cats that much!

Yeah, I was wondering about where Comics, etc. fit in on here as well.
I like Dilbert & Duplex comic strips, Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comic books, and Ctrl-Alt-Delete online.

I just started reading http://survivingtheworld.net/, which maybe is technically a photoblog, since it's pictures of a guy writing on a chalkboard. The tagline is "daily lessons in science, literature, love, and life" which seems to cover most of the topics!
