Duane has scoliosis :/ .

He woke up complaining of right lower back pain, and I was able to get him seen this morning. We were worried it was his kidney - he's has stones in the past. So the doctor is palpating his back and side, and thumping on where the organ is. His pain wasn't there.

Dr. W_: "It's the alignment of his spine, and it's causing muscle spasms."
Me: "It sounds like scoliosis?"
Dr. W_: "Yeah. If it'd been his kidney when I hit that spot, he would have gone through the roof."

So, we've got an anti-inflammatory twice a day, heat & cold packs, and a recommendation for physical therapy and/or a chiropractor. Nobody's ever said anything about this as far as the Honey's concerned; he's 67. Apparently it's been there all this while, but it hasn't really been a problem until now. I'm just baffled, and looking around for said specialist...

Actually, since I first posted this, I've found you can develop it later in life. There's no known cause for what's called idiopathic scoliosis, as opposed to the congenital variety. He's miserable this evening; I've got to get him some help soon.

The anti-inflammatory has kicked in and my husband's feeling better. He's just not into having cold packs or the heating pad - must be a guy thing because I reach for them in a heartbeat. Anyway, I'm waiting on a call from the Valley's physical therapist. I'm thinking now we'll go there and see what they say about a chiropractor.

How are you doing, Paddy?

Hello again!
Sorry for having been so quiet. I wanted to go online during my holidays, but all I managed was taking pictures of the Great Work Disturber lying across my laptop, refusing to move and keeping me away...

Been off work for two weeks, managed to get my tax return done, but not much more. We're going through a massive heatwave - and when I say massive, I'm talking about maximum temperatures about 38 - 40° C. We did get some rain, but it's not enough. The gardens look scorched. :( Mum is not pleased, not at all.

More later on (I'm thinking of giving the Great Work Disturber his very own laptop he can lie across, so I can work on another one...)

Hey, sweetie!

It's so good to hear from you. You don't sound all that convinced that giving Master Timmy his own laptop will let you have yours ;) ; the attraction is that you're working on it and not paying attention to him - but you know that  .

On a somber note, our heat index record for July broke those for last July. And in addition to those horrible fires out west, there's been a numbskull caught starting a new one south of LA! :wtf: What is wrong with people? The heat is just awful, and like you, there's not enough rain out here either. I'm sure you've had loss of life there from this as well :( . I'm doing my bit - carrying around our own silverware and my travel mug for when we eat out - for the environment. I stopped using plastic straws months ago. It doesn't make anything cooler - I don't know how to do that - but if I can keep more garbage out than in, it makes me feel better.

Speaking of taxes, ours are done as well. They were supposed to be finished in April, but it took weeks to get all the paperwork together.
Still, we got a refund :yay: ! The first in about thirty years, and probably the last we'll ever see

I really do hope your mom's garden improves. *sigh*

Yeah, I know

The temperatures are finally getting cooler. We've had a real drought, temperatures around 38° - 40° C throughout the last two months, it has been straining. We all haven't been well. Timmy lost weight, he didn't want to eat much. I was getting worried, but finally the temperatures went down last weekend, and he started eating normal again. Catching up on everything. He's been demanding food on a hourly basis the last two days.

I started with the water gym class last week - it's actually hard excercise   but I like it!

Oh, and it's raining!

Ahhhhhh, Gene Kelly *sigh* Did you know he had a raging cold when they were filming that? Consummate professional.

I'm sorry you're all under the weather, so to speak. This past week at the grocery store, most of the crew couldn't talk above a whisper - allergies, is what I was told, though I've never heard of anybody getting laryngitis from them. Amy's been very clingy lately. She's actually soliciting being picked up, and then she tucks her head right under my chin and purrs like crazy. I'm not complaining, it's just not usually how she comes round.

I've done water gym classes, and they are hard, what with moving through the pool. Btw, I've lost weight :D ! As of June 26th, I was down from 264 to 250 at my doctor's - I don't know where I am now. But I'm thinking it's at least another ten; I don't have a scale so I'm going by how my clothes fit, and my belly has gone from three fat rolls down to one and a half  . My next doctor appointment is in December, when I'll get weighed again, so I'm just plugging along until then.

It's good to hear from you, girl  !

Timmy has started eating again as soon as the temperatures went down, an he's been demanding food on an hourly basis ever since.  And I'm glad to give it to him.

Mom's 80th birthday is drawing nearer (next Wednesday). My sister is off for a holiday with her husband (they'll return on Tuesday evening), and mom and I are pretty much left alone with the preparations. Larissa and her boyfriend are helping, though. I'm a bit angry, because it's not news that mom is turning 80 this year, and it's not like my sister doesn't know the date.

And a perfectionist. I love his movies. He made hard work look so easy.

Off to finish the preparations - including cleaning the house (more like turning it upside down and inside out), ordering cakes, buying beverages and food etc. etc. etc. :P

Preparations are going fine. Larissa and her boyfriend Dominic have been helping a lot already. Mom wants all the cupboards and closets in the living room cleaned before her great b-day :paperbag: and they've been helping her carrying the glass and the porcelain dishes (they're all from grandma) and cleaning it. Mom has also been busy to sort out and clean up. I have been busy doing the shopping and organizing the catering. Today there's more cleaning out cupboards (kitchen this time) and tomorrow I'll be cleaning the rest of the house.

Timmy doesn't like all this cleaning at all. He's been beside himself these last days. Wanting his cuddles at one moment, and the next moment he meows at me and lashes out. He's running up and down the stairs all the time, and out of the house through the cat door and back inside again through my bedroom window...

And of course he's been occupying the laptop while I was uptdating and writing.. I bought me a new MP3 Player (my old one has broken after 10 years of use), and I'm currently burning cd's for a new playlist.

Don't tell your mom, but she's got a Jackie Lawson card coming from all of us :D. I needed to tell you so that you'd know to look for it on the 29th. I hope she has a wonderful birthday!

I haven't been sharing with you all that much about Amy, but she's been a real piece of work too. I asked Duane to get her some treats, thinking to give myself a break. Well, the next time I went to the kitchen, she's waiting for me. I told him, thanks but don't do it anymore. I'm trying to cut her back, and she'll be expecting stuff from both of us if he continues.

She's been very cuddly lately. Actually lets me pick her up and she snuggles under my chin *squee*. She's also been wanting to be with me for a nap and most of the night - I think she might be having a bit more trouble with regulating her temperature, and is looking to keep warm. I'm making sure that I'm at her beck and call. At thirteen, she may have as little as a year or as many as at least three; Tasha passed away at fourteen, and Kess would have been nineteen in April of 2012. But Kess was always an Audrey Hepburn, while Tashie was an armful of chub. Amy's got Tasha's build, so I'm just assuming. Hence the trying to slim her down. You wouldn't believe the futility in that, but I try.

Btw, an MP3 player is on my wish list. Never had one, but I envy those who do  .

Mom says Thank You for the lovely birthday card. It was her first e-card, and - as she puts it - everything computer-related is a miracle to her. She loved watching it!

I only got to show it to her today. Guests have been dropping in and out since Wednesday. We're not done yet  However, everything went fine. Mom had a blast with her guests (some surprises there  ) and of course we had waaaay too much food :paperbag: - as always. As soon as we realized how much food it actually was, my sister and I started putting some things aside and in the freezer. This way we won't have to throw anything away. Next time I'm going to take care of the catering myself...

Awwwwww :paperbag: I'm glad she liked it, and had a wonderful time.

Good idea about the food! But we ladies always worry that we'll run short, so now you've got some nice leftovers for when you don't feel like cooking and can just heat it up. In fact, I wouldn't mind taking a couple myself if you can spare them!
